Prompt Proofing Blog Post: Optimizing Those Press Releases, Part One
What is it that makes people not only click on a press release to view it but to actually engage with it and take action?
VANCOUVER, BC, November 11, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Getting the Reader to Engage with Your Release
At Prompt Proofing we write several press releases every day for a variety of clients. Each client, understandably, wants their particular release to 'perform' well; that is the point after all, to drive traffic to their site, raise awareness and maybe even achieve some sales. So what is it that makes people not only click on a press release to view it but to actually engage with it and take action?
When we say 'engage' we mean that the release strikes a chord with that person; they read it - all the way through - and are interested enough to take further action. That might result in placing an order, sending an email to the writer or simply mentioning it to a friend or colleague, forwarding the link or tweeting about it. An effective press release will include a 'call to action' in the text that will entice the reader to actually do something: find out more about a product, company or political ideal or even place an order or offer support.
In the course of research, I click on hundreds of blogs and press releases in any given day; sometimes I read - and yes, engage - with the whole thing but sometimes I read the first line, realize it is not what I was hoping for and close it again. It should go without saying therefore that not only the headline but also the opening sentence should be an attention grabber. The opening sentence of your release should not only intrigue the reader, leaving them wanting to read on, but should also summarize the release's main focus. The reader should be left in no doubt as to the purpose and angle of the release once they have read the opening sentence.
Check back next week for tricks of the trade that will encourage readers to truly engage with your release and take action. If you want Prompt Proofing to write an search engine optimized press release for you, contact us here.
